Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins has revealed details of a new gardening kit and toys for children.

The Seedlets kit will arrive in April 2013, in collaboration with LiteBulb Group. It will tailor three ability levels: beginner, intermediate and expert.

There will be ten products initially available, priced from £1.29 to £10.99.

Collins said: "I’m totally committed to showing kids exactly how fun it can be to grow plants, especially plants they can then eat. 

"Many children don’t have a real understanding of where their food comes from, so this is about getting back to basics, tempting them away from computers and TVs and into the fresh air to grow their own dinner. 

"In my 30 years teaching kids about gardening, I’ve never worked with a child who didn’t get a real kick out of it. These brilliant bits of kit are colourful, appealing and easy for small hands to use effectively."

Collins and his colleagues at LiteBulb Group are working on a Grow-Your-Own Day nationwide event, where kids will be encouraged to grow plants.
